TEACHER-PROOFING THE CLASSROOM
Yes! Classrooms must be "teacher-proofed." There, I said it, probably the most inflammatory statement in all of American education.
Yes! Classrooms must be "teacher-proofed" (all of them, K through university and the corporate training room). One of the main reasons so many kids (and adults) fail is because teachers HAVE NOT been taught how to teach students to succeed with reading and math (or much of anything else).
Once teachers have been taught positive discipline and the basic teaching formats these same skills, tools and solutions apply across the board. This is why I would begin my ideal teacher training by teaching all teachers (regardless of what's to be taught) Direct Instruction's Reading Mastery One and Two (available through SRA McGraw/Hill). Master these two lessons and you'll be on your way to being a master teacher.
Thanks everyone. Good job teaching kids to win with reading and math.
