NO NONSENSE PLEASE
American high school students slip in global education rankings: WALL STREET JOURNAL | DECEMBER 3, 2013
I have definitely been accused of being too rigid about what I want kids to learn. I guess I'm this way because I believe there's nothing more rigid than being trapped in dead-end jobs.
I received an email yesterday from a friend who is rather despondent about the future, "Mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly." He is skeptical that my emphasis on literacy will change a single bean. But I demure.
A hill of beans or not, I still hold out the hope that one literate kid someplace will join with dozens and thousand and millions around the world to pull off a global "miracle on ice." I know that some of them have a chance. Without the skills required for continuing educations, I just can't imagine.
Working together we really do make a difference,
