CIVIL CLASSROOMS

I have personally sat through so many classes, presentations, training sessions, meetings and talks that I have learned I don't want to sit through many more. How come? Because the person doing the presentation usually has such poor presentation skills. How do I know they're so poor? Because I evaluate "teaching" using this famous Method of Teacher Evaluation.

This simple little tool clearly describes a collection of behaviors that are endemic to 99% of all teaching. Keep in mind that our goal isn't entertainment, jokes or domination by the most verbal. Our goal is simple – to flood kids with reading, math and study-skills success. If we're not doing this, what the heck are we doing?

I hate to say it, but believe it, what we're doing is wasting a lot of precious time and money. This is certainly not a sign of "civility," and civility rules.

Crazy, ain't it?

Thanks for all you do to show kids what it means to be civil,
