VOICES OFF, EYES ON ME
There is no doubt that the place you must begin is with "cooperation." Cooperation is where all good teaching begins. It's so terrible when it's overlooked in favor of instruction.
Cooperation begins by showing you care about order and respect by adopting a "Voices off. Eyes on me" countenance. Kids are such great mimics that most will easily copy your respectful behavior. The few who don't just haven't been taught yet. For all but the most recalcitrant, "Voices off. Eyes on me" works every time. It really is the cornerstone of any positive discipline program.
I'll be releasing a video soon that shows what "Voices off. Eyes on me" looks like, because, once learned, entire auditoriums of kids can be engaged without a word being uttered. This level of cooperation and trust is essential for good teaching to begin. I'll show you how shortly, just as soon as my video crew is back from Cancun.
Thanks for all you do to teach kids to succeed with reading and math. Let me know how I can help this school year. There are few things more important than your child's school success.
