WHEN IT COMES TO "NATURE VS. NURTURE," I'M FAR FROM NEUTRAL
I suspect when one chooses either the "nature" or "nurture" side of the education argument that something essential has been lost.
We are the products of the push-and-pull between the two, not one or the other.. Existence is both nature and nurture. Ask any parent. Ask any teacher. Ask any grandparent. The social-engineers are welcomed to continue their debate, but every one of us has a particular "nature." Our children are not "blank slates." For instance, they seem to know innately that approbation feels better than criticism.
The burgeoning lives of children need water, shade, sun, maybe a little special fertilizer and protection from rouge pests and pets… This is "nurture," and you get a much better yield with proper nurture. You really do. Who are the ranchers, farmers, teachers or parents who dispute this?
Here at Brainsarefun we're focusing on one small part of nurture, success with reading. It really is amazing how success with reading can be used to flood all-kinds of kids with tons of that good ol' approbation and academic success. It happens all the time with parents and teachers who teach their kids to read. You know where to begin: Read Aloud for Family Unity.
